King James Version (KJV)

First published in 1611

History and Origins

The King James Version, also known as the Authorized Version, was commissioned in 1604 by King James I of England for the Church of England. Translated by 47 scholars, it has been widely acknowledged as one of the most influential books in English literature and history.

Translation Philosophy

The KJV was translated using a formal equivalence method (strict word-for-word rendering) from the Greek Textus Receptus and the Hebrew Masoretic Text. It is celebrated for its majestic, poetic language and rhythmic prose that has shaped English culture for centuries.

Public Domain & Free Access

The King James Version is in the public domain in almost all parts of the world, meaning it is free from copyright restrictions. (Note: In the United Kingdom, certain Crown rights remain, but it is free to print and distribute globally).
